Hermes Trismegistus

The legendary Hellenistic figure that originated as a syncretic combination of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. He is the purported author of the Hermetic Corpus.

Corpus Hermeticum

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn

A secret society devoted to the study and practice of the occult, metaphysics, and paranormal activities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Rosicrucianism

A spiritual and cultural movement which arose in Europe in the early 17th century. The mysterious doctrine of the order is "built on esoteric truths of the ancient past".

Freemasonry & Hermeticism

Freemasonry, while distinct from pure Hermeticism, shares deep roots with the Hermetic tradition. Both systems emphasize the moral and spiritual improvement of the individual through the study of symbols and allegories.

Many Masonic rituals and symbols can be traced back to Hermetic philosophy, particularly the idea of "building" the inner temple of the soul. The concept of the "Lost Word" in Masonry parallels the Hermetic quest for divine gnosis.
